From the roaring success of the Northstars Ice Hockey Club to the triumphant Newcastle Northstars dominating the Australian Ice Hockey League, our city is a hotbed for this electrifying sport. Picture this: six-time national champions, clinching victories in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2015, and 2016, with six additional Grand Final appearances. Hunter Ice Skating Stadium hosts the Newcastle Ice Hockey League’s summer and winter competitions, catering to those seeking the thrill of competition and those looking for a more casual experience.

Learn to Play Ice Hockey
Are you itching to glide into this fast-paced, exhilarating team sport? Come along to our Ice Hockey School! Every Monday evening, starting at 5:45 PM, join us as the expert instructors from Hockey MD guide you through the ins and outs of ice hockey.
And the best part? It’s open to everyone—men, women, and all ages! Our Ice Hockey School is divided into four sections: Grow the Game, Skate the Game, Save the Game and Play the Game. Beginners will focus on fundamental skills like skating techniques, stick handling, and basic puck control. As you progress, advanced sessions will cover shooting, defending, attacking, passing drills, and more.
At the end of each ten-week section, players will showcase their newfound skills. Pass the Learn to Play assessment, and you’ll earn an invitation to join a local team’s competition.
Pricing options are as follows:
$24.00 a week for Skate, Save & Play
$14.00 a week for Grow the Game
$200 for a 10-week term
Mondays from 5:45 PM to 6:45 PM during school terms, get ready to hit the ice! Remember, it’s recommended to arrive thirty minutes early to ensure you’re geared up and ready to go.
